Appearance[]
Blue Beetle, who is a teenager, is short and slim with his head and body completely enclosed in a tight, light-blue and black suit. The large yellow eyes blink and squint normally despite their size.
Personality[]
As a person, he is young, inexperienced and over-confident which can lead him to make frequent mistakes, but is imaginative in solving problems. When about to go into action, he can suddenly cry, "I got this!" but more in hope than expectation. He has a playful sense of humor, is even prepared to make fun of Batman and plays online games with Cyborg. Others can address him as just "Beetle".
Powers[]
His powers originate from a pack on his back in the rough shape of a beetle that has three pairs of legs that wrap around his body and neck, and large 'horns' that stick up behind his shoulders. It has the same color scheme as his suit and the eyes and tail are lit up.
Blue Beetle addresses it using the syllables "kah-jee" or "kah-jee-dah" to either command it or just converse with it, and it replies with beeps and whistles while flashing its horns. It can cause his suit to either change to something more substantial and warlike, provide him with the ability to fly by sprouting four insect wings, or conveniently create a weapon - like a large sword - from thin air.
The end of his right arm can change into a cylindrical ray blaster and, for extra flying speed, a large jet thruster can appear on his back. For defense, a rectangular shield can be made for him to crouch behind, or alternatively blades can rotate around each hand that when brought together form a round shield that can resist the blast of Kryptonian heat vision. Blue Beetle's suit can also change into something called "anti-gravity mode" (it is not clear why) when it becomes heavy and armored to try to resist ray blasts. This variant suit also gives him the extra strength necessary to prise open doors.
Weaknesses[]
His use of shields suggests that he is vulnerable in his normal suit, and even these shields and his heavy suit are not indestructible, suffering damage from ray blasts, heat vision and super-powered punches.
Affiliations[]
Blue Beetle is accepted into the Justice League at the conclusion of his first story in which he accompanies Batman as a novice.

Notes[]
- The "kah-jee-dah" bit is given in the comics as "Khaji Da" which was originally the name (in Ancient Egyptian?) of a magical scarab. Later, it was explained as alien technology.
- In the comics, he can also be in de-powered, 'civilian' mode where he is dressed normally and the beetle/scarab is not visible because it is small and inside his body.
